A Nation Born

Obliv’ous ants march ‘round dry stalks of hay,
What momentar’ly hide me from my foe,
We patr’ots hearing distant horses neigh,
Await the beat of drum and fifer’s blow,

Calm wind doth bear sweet smell of sulf’rous smoke,
While blackened sweat doth fall on bloodied soil,
Grim orders from the rear, though hushly spok’t,
Bring tension ‘mongst the troops as tight’ning coil,

When bugle’s blast beats roar of canon fire,
Ten thousand men doth rise with rebel yell,
Who charge through rain of lead in seething ire,
Intent to show vile e-ne-mies to Hell,

Some men do fly; some draw their final breath,
Some men do cry: ‘Tis Liberty or Death!

Sonnets (vol. I) a fun book to read. More fun if you read it allowed.

DayChild, have you found the Easter eggs in Volume I?

Look on pages 13 and 43.

Sunday Dec 14 I am reading Dr Pieczenik as I wait wait wait to see if my nation stands or if I will have to make a last stand with my own feeble means. Hopeful news starts coming in. I see a post by you, find your poems and read:

"Calm wind doth bear sweet smell of sulf’rous smoke,
While blackened sweat doth fall on bloodied soil,
Grim orders from the rear, though hushly spok’t,
Bring tension ‘mongst the troops as tight’ning coil,

When bugle’s blast beats roar of canon fire," ...

Nothing could have better expressed the place in which my soul has been trapped

Long before 2016 I believed a final showdown was coming. I knew I could not walk away, You put me in their shoes. I needed that. Thank you for sharing
